Skinning follows Novica, a promising young maths student pulled into Belgrade’s skinhead scene, as football hooliganism and street nationalism harden into real violence — and eventually a killing he can’t undo. The film pulls real archival footage into its fiction — stadium riots, the attack on the US Embassy in Belgrade, the violence around Belgrade Pride — building the on-screen violence out of documented history rather than invented spectacle.Reviewing the film for Wild Rooster, critic Marcus Agar called it visually striking and hard to look away from, while noting that the script leaves Novica’s turn to violence somewhat underexplained psychologically.Directed by Stevan Filipović, the film premiered in 2010.
