Andrej Hieng’s 1969 play traces the life of El Greco, the painter known for his singular colour and elongated, almost otherworldly figures, built around his creative crises and the artistic choices that made him controversial in his own time.Anja Suša’s staging puts El Greco’s own paintings onstage as characters in their own right, alongside the man who made them. The production premiered on the Bel Etage stage of Opera and Theatre Madlenianum in Belgrade on March 9, 2007, with Nebojša Dugalić as El Greco.
