But the City has Protected me / Ali Grad me je Štitio / 2018

Text by Tanja Šljivar

Tanja Šljivar’s play is set against the 2015 protests over a new high-rise for the European Central Bank in Frankfurt, seen through the eyes of workers from the former Yugoslavia who build and clean that skyline without ever quite belonging to it.

Directed by Bojan Đorđev, the production premiered at Užice National Theatre in December 2018 and later won the award for best costume design at Kraljevo’s Joakim Vujić Festival in 2019.

The text has also been read and staged internationally, including at the Dramaturgija krize festival in Barcelona.
