In the Republic of Happiness / Republiken Lycka / 2025

Text by Martin Crimp
Translation: Alva Dahl

A family gathers for what should be an ordinary evening together, until an unannounced visit from an uncle throws the room into chaos and sets off a chain of events no one can control.Written by Martin Crimp in 2012, four years before Brexit, the play imagines a middle class caught between economic uncertainty, rising individualism and a fracturing sense of shared society — concerns that feel only sharper today. In its Swedish premiere, directed by Anja Suša, the production strips away the polished surface of a happy family to expose the panic and self-interest underneath.
