Milena Marković wrote this piece to mark Atelje 212’s sixtieth anniversary, tracing several generations of one Belgrade world through rock ’n’ roll, war and the slow disappearance of a kind of freedom her own generation grew up believing in.
It opens with two mothers meeting at their sons’ graves — a poet and a soldier, both lost in the wars of the 1990s — and moves back through the families that shaped them, unable to escape the same collisions of dream and history.
Directed by Snežana Trišić, the production premiered at Atelje 212 in Belgrade on November 12, 2017.
